DEd or Diploma in Education is a certificate level teacher training programme that equips candidates to become nursery school teachers. The course basically caters to elementary level education in India and is an important job-oriented programme in the field of education. Depending on the university/ college in which a candidate applies for admission, duration of DEd course varies from one to three years. The minimum duration to complete the course also varies from institute to institute. The course, however, is available as a both full-time and part-time programme. Admission to DEd programme is usually offered on the basis of candidates’ performance in the written entrance test conducted at university/ institute level. However, some institutions also offer direct admission to candidates on the basis of merit. The merit list is prepared by the officials on the basis of candidates’ marks in Class 12th exams. B.Ed. Considered to be the noblest profession, Teaching has always been one of the most popular career choices among students. However, to become a teacher at the pre-nursery, nursery, primary, secondary and senior secondary levels in schools or to become a professor at the college/university level, aspirants need to possess the right qualifications. B.Ed is the bachelor’s degree undertaken to take up teaching as a profession. However, it is worth knowing that B.Ed or Bachelor of Education is not an undergraduate degree and to pursue this course one needs to have completed his/her graduation. Thus, B.Ed is a professional course and right after completing this course, students can get a job at the school level. The B.Ed course duration is typically two years. Educational Qualification

Candidates need to have completed their graduation in any stream (that is, Arts, Science or Commerce) in order to fulfill B.Ed eligibility criteria. However, most popular B.Ed colleges allow candidates to take part in their admission process for B.Ed course if they have graduated with at least 50-55% aggregate marks at the UG level.

Age Limit

For B.Ed admissions in a majority of colleges, there is no age bar. However, admission process of some B.Ed colleges require candidates to be minimum 19 years in age.

Bachelor of Physical Education is a three-year undergraduate programme that imparts education regarding care and development of the body. Admission Process

Admission to the B.P.Ed.programme is done on through a combination of physical, fitness and academic tests. Students who have passed the exams of class 12 can apply for the programme. Performance in the following tests is evaluated to select students for admission.
Academic Test  A general English test is conducted for aspiring candidates. Candidates have to secure at least 40% marks in order to be considered for admission.
Physical Fitness Test Different physical pursuits are conducted for boys and girls (push-ups, broad jump, yard running, yard dashing and flexing) in order to test their physical abilities. Candidates who will score 50% or more in this test will be considered for admission.
Game/ Sport Playing Ability Test Each institution has a list of sports available. Candidates have to select a ‘sport of choice’ for which he or she is examined by the respective university or institute. It is essential to score at least 50% marks in this test. The cumulative score in these three tests are evaluated by the respective institute basis which the list of shortlisted candidates is prepared.

Salary of a B.P.Ed.graduate varies according to the job profile and the experience of the candidate in the field of physical training. A fresh graduate can expect to earn Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh per annum. Coaches and referees earn up to Rs. 5 lakh per annum or more depending on the sports and levels at which they are working (state, national or international level). MPEd (Master of Physical Education) is a two-year duration postgraduate course in physical education. Physical education is a domain concerned with sports-related activities and deals with subjects such as sports science, sports psychology, sports research methodology, sports medicine, exercise physiology, etc. The postgraduate programme in physical education acquaints students with the dynamics of sports activities and offers them professional training as well as knowledge about fitness in sports. What is B.El.Ed (Bachelor of Elementary Education)?

B.El.Ed – Bachelor of Elementary Education is an undergraduate bachelor’s degree course with 4 year duration. The course trains candidates to deal with children from 6-12 years. It gives an insight into child psychology and cognitive development, theories and practices of elementary education, and holds introductory courses on how to children learn. The training encompasses a set of support, services, and instructions for children with learning disabilities and individually designed programs to meet their learning needs; short attention spans and varied personalities and values. Lessons are also given to establish and enforce rules, developing lesson plans and maintaining order with instructional material. The course is divided into the following phases, the first 3 years focuse on lectures and theory subjects, the second phase which is the remaining one year is dedicated for practical training.
